Services To Our Clients

Therapy
La Posada offers counseling for children and their mothers by accessing resources in the community. After clients have been evaluated by the staff, psychological assistance is offered if needed.

Education
La Posada provides tutoring services through a contract with the El Paso Independent School District. Children receive three hours of individualized tutoring daily. Tutors also serve as advocates for the children and their mothers in the school by discussing the children's progress with the teacher at their regular school, and by keeping abreast of any educational needs that the children might demonstrate. Mothers have access to:

• G.E.D. Classes
• English classes
• Parenting skills courses
• Computer courses
• Job training
• Value clarification sessions are held regulary by the La Posada Staff

Transportation
La Posada's residents have access to transportation to job interviews, benefit interviews, doctor appointments, and work. This is done through a collaboration with El Paso Coalition for the Homeless.

Health Care
Clients who do not qualify for government subsidized medical care, or who lack the resources to pay for medical care have access to a free clinic where they may obtain free medication.

Recreation
La Posasda provides opportunities for recreation within the shelter as well as in the community. There is also an agreement with the University of Texas at El Paso for an Occupational Therapist to work for several hours a week with the children. Play in encouraged not only for the children, but also for the mothers. Birthdays, graduations, accomplishments, births, and end of school, are some of the special occasions that are celebrated regularly at La Posada.

Day Care
Through the collaboration with the coalition, residents have access to free day care for their children as long as the mothers are either working or going to school.

Job Search
La Posada assists in the search for jobs and more permanent housing for families.

Housing Assistance
While the families are gaining self-sufficiency, La Posada is able to assist with the establishment of a new home. This is done through donations of furniture and housewares that La Posada receives from friends and the community.

Complete Services Integration

In delivering services, La Posada accesses a variety of community service agencies such as the El Paso Homeless Coalition, Migrant Program, Homeless Program, Mexican Consulate, other shelters, clinics and church groups, among many other organizations, in order to provide a complete spectrum of services needed by its clients.
